Depravity of Man

Text: Romans 8:7-8 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.”

Introduction: John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” The reason many today violate the law is because the worldly mind thinks that it does not need to be subject to the law. The law came from God in the form of the Ten Commandments thousands of years ago.

Flesh verses Spirit: 1 John 2:16 “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” Being reborn when we accept Christ makes us a quickened spirit, meaning that we become aware of the things of God. (Spiritual Truths.) At that point we can understand what the Word of God means, so we can worship and please God.

Depravity verses Love: Men living in depravity do many terrible things. They think that they are pleasing God, but they are going against His very teachings.

Matthew 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Conclusion: We are at war with ourselves. As long as we are in this body of flesh there will be battles. This earth is a proving ground. We serve God out of love. We serve Christ out of love. We help others (neighbors) out of love. We can overcome evil with love. You can tell there has been a change in you because of love.
